Lakeland PTA Job Descriptions
The following are brief descriptions of the Executive managers and their respective chair members positions.
**** Denotes Chair positions under each Executive position
President:
The President shall perform all duties indicated by the Bylaws, preside at any meeting by the Association or Board, work with the Principle to oversee the effectiveness of the PTA projects, ensure all Chair positions are performing their duties in a timely manor, help maintain good working conditions between parents, teachers, and the community, prepare agendas for all meetings, and be well versed in parliamentary procedure. An incoming President should have served at least one year as a voting member of the Board in the past.
1st Vice President (Membership Chairman):
1st VP shall be responsible for coordinating a membership campaign at the beginning of the school year, encourage local unit membership, encourage community leaders to join the PTA, keep an accurate membership roll, issue membership cards, report to County and State officials, and fill the remainder of the Presidents term if vacancy occurs.
2nd Vice President (Programs)
2nd VP shall establish and work with committee to assist the President in the development of PTA programs, make sure all arrandments for facility usage is planned (i.e. sound system, flags, podium, etc.), and arrange "thank-you" notes or gifts.
3rd Vice President (Ways and Means)
3rd VP shall work with committee to organize and run the PTA fund raisers, solicitation for sponsors from area businesses, conduct post event ceremonies, interview potential fund-raiser groups and present 2 to the Board, and coordinate volunteers to run events with the Volunteer Chairman.
4th Vice President (Health, Safety, and Welfare)
4th VP shall coordinate and plan all activities related to the Safety Program, Clinic, and any planned programs. Coordinate any special events that the Board agrees to support.
****Safety Poster Chair: shall organize the poster contest that will be judged and displayed at school.
****Clinic: shall setup and maintain the Dailey volunteer clinic workers.
5th Vice President (Publicity/Newsletter Chairman)
5th VP shall maintain the PTA newsletter (Lion Tails) which will be distributed to every household per a preset deadline. Each PTA Board member will be notified of the deadline to provide articles. The Chairman will also be responsible for keeping local newspapers up-to-date on what is happening at Lakeland Elementary i.e. school events, PTA events, local school/student/facility achievements. The Principle must approve anything published.
**** Website committee: Edit and maintain PTA website.
6th Vice President (Parental involvement)
6th VP shall compile a list of all volunteers for each Board member, oversee and act as Board liaison for the committees.
**** Room Parent: Oversee all areas that relate to room parents including, Class Parties, Teacher Wish List, Field Day Activities, and Teacher Appreciation Day. ****Campus Beautification: Shall be responsible for making recommendations, organizing and execute a program which will create and esthetic exterior of the school.
7th Vice President (Hospitality Chairman)
7th VP shall establish and work with a committee to arrange any areas of hospitality as requested by the PTA. These areas include: Welcome Luncheon for Teachers, Teachers/Staff birthday recognition, Teacher Conference Day Dinner/Snacks, Grandparents Day Breakfast, American Education Week, and Teachers Appreciation Day Luncheon.
8th Vice President (Legislation Chairman)
8th VP shall stay informed of pending national, state, and local legislation concerning education and children and report this information to the Board, attend legislative conference in Nashville, compile an annual report for Legislation and Citizenship, organize Citizenship Literature contest, and distribute entries to the county and state competitions.
9th Vice President (Historian)
9th VP shall keep a written and pictorial record of all activities of the Association during the school year which shall include but not be limited to newspaper clippings and photographs of school events related to the PTA. A scrapbook will be designed for the Association for the contest at the State PTA Convention and entered by the set deadline.
10th Vice President (Cultural Arts/Reflection Chairman)
10th VP shall coordinate all aspects of the Cultural Arts contest for local competition, provide information to teachers and students, acquire judges from outside the school, provide information for publicity, prepare awards for entries and winners, transport entries to the SCC competition, and compile and annual report.
****Fine Arts: shall coordinate and organize Music Appreciation and Art Appreciation programs
11th Vice President (Spiritual and Family Life)
11th VP shall provide inspiration at Board meetings, arrange for individuals to provide inspiration at general meetings, assist with any special needs requests at the school, i.e. children, teachers, families in need ,etc.
****Community Outreach: shall be the Liaison between Lakeland Elementary and the Lakeland/Shelby County community, encourage programs to promote social responsibility in Lakeland students. Projects include KIDS KAN, Angel Tree, etc.
