HISTORY of COLA
The Council of Lakeland Associations (COLA) is comprised of the presidents of all Lakeland civic, homeowner and special interest nonprofit organizations who wish to be members. Currently the following are COLA members: Lakeland Civic Club, Lakeland Lions Club, Garner Lake Association, Lakeland Estates HOA, Lakeshore Ladies Club, East Shores HOA, Woodland Park HOA, Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce, Oakwood HOA, Plantation Hills HOA, Woodbridge Subdivision HOA, Creekside Manor HOA, and Sterling Place HOA.
COLA was formed in 1998 to meet the following needs:
serve as a community leader forum to identify issues that would benefit from multi-club/association support or positions.
establish a common, city-wide newsletter for individual club/assn. news in order to save costs.
use the city-wide newsletter and other vehicles to promote citizen awareness in critical civic issues not addressed through the existing news media.
provide a means of immediate commuication to the citizens concerning governmental meetings that would otherwise not be known.
To meet these goals, COLA has established a bi-monthly newsletter, CITYWATCH which is distributed free of charge to every home in Lakeland. COLA has also established an e-mail communication network to all who request it, called QNet. Weekly meeting schedules, news bulletins, special meeting agendas, and reports of most meetings are posted the day after they occur.
